Happiness is...

a call from spain
a certain someone to walk with when it snows
health services (sudafed, sudafed, sudafed)
the philo closet
suite family dinners (balanced meals?!)
a bed in a room that doesn't clank (this one is being worked on)
permission to take a 7000 level class (!) on thesis-worthy material with a professor who said, "you're more fascinating than i thought"
knowing that after 4 more final papers and 3 more final exams I can see my family again

kidding kidding kidding. <3

Happiness is having your friends make lists like this one. . . it's nice to know that things are going well :)

As for the second thing, at more sane hours, please? Haha, I'm kidding, do what you wish.
And for the third: I hope that that's not the only thing you got from health services.
Good luck with the sixth, and as for the seventh, wow I didn't know that classes existed at that level (?!) and as for what the professor said :D :D :D that's wonderful.

and for the last thing on the list? best of luck, m'dear. chanukah chanukah prettyness and it should be good, no? :)

::hug:: :)

(and p.s. i hope that i didn't miscount, cause that would mess up a number of things. haha)

When it snows at 3 am sometimes it's worth it. It really was beautiful, after all.

And yep, that's all i got from health services. The sudafed itself was from a drug store; what i got was "yes you have an ear infection so do this and come back in two days to see if you're better" but it wasn't "are you sure you're not pregnant?" so it was a successful visit.

And it's a grad class on genesis rabbah (hexhaemera)(what? huh?) which is to say midrash on creation and outside sources (timaeus, philo, church fathers, weird shit, etc) and intro to exegesis is a prereq and yeah... intense-ish, i think...

we all need a break once in a while. and a little bit of a nes.

nes gadol, afilu. c'est possible, i think. :)

When it snows at 3 am sometimes it sounds like it's definitely worth it. And I'm sure it WAS beautiful. . .v'im at lo levad az. . .tov, beseder. Psh. ;) I'm glad you had fun. :)

Blargh, what?! Sudafed makes ear infections go away? Blargh. I hope that you feel better very, very soon.

And the class. . . well. Ok, I want to say that it sounds very interesting and I'm sure that it will be, I just don't. . . understand your explanation. But I hope that you enjoy the class. :)

P.S. Sam? Toda raba.

explanation take two:

it's a class on a text called breishit rabbah, which is a rabbinic work that comments line by line on genesis. in its midrashy fanciful way (as far as i can tell) it brings up all these unrelated tangential stories that prove various sermon-y points and resolve problems in the text and do all sorts of other fun things. it's intensely odd and philosophical and moralizing and all such other things.

the class goes through the text in comparison to the texts from which the rabbis were getting their ideas at the time and texts which used the ideas of the rabbis. therefore, plato, philo (a jewish philosopher who tried to rectify the bible with philosophy) augustine, and many such people. I only got a glance at the syllabus but it's just a LOT of text... basically there are just a lot of ideas and they play together and it's complicated but seemingly fascinating and yeah... who knows. i'm not sure i have the guts (not to mention there are only two undergrads currently in the class). we'll see, we'll see. but how cool is creation?

muchas gracias :)

i wanted to reply and say that it sounds fascinating but then i realized that that was the word that you'd used. But it does sound very interesting, and also, I think, like something you'd enjoy very much.

As for guts. . . we WILL see, I hope, or at the very least you will see, but honestly? I have meah achuz faith in you, I really do. Be'atzlacha. . . v'be'kef, of course. :)
